We are pleased to present the recently published Animals of Fazenda Tanguro - Mato Grosso State: Diversity in the transition zone between the Amazon Forest and the Cerrado (in Portuguese only). The publication is part of a research project conducted at Fazenda Tanguro, a private soybean ranch in the city of Querencia, northeastern Mato Grosso state, as result of a successful partnership between the Emilio Goeldi Museum (MPEG), the Federal University of Para State (UFPA), the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT) and the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM).

The project, which was launched in 2005, aims to assess the impacts of human activities on the fauna of the region and to provide essential data for landscape management of a land with high biodiversity value. Moreover, the transition zone between the Amazon Rainforest and Cerrado (savannah) facilitates genetic sharing, making it extremely important from an environmental point of view. IPAM has contributed to the project since its inception and carries out a number of researches at the Tanguro ranch involving fire, water, biodiversity, reforestation, among other aspects related to the natural environment.

In addition to presenting eight groups of animals - spiders, insects (bugs, beetles and flies), fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals and non-flying bats - the book also features a glossary of scientific terms that are cited throughout the text. The authors included also general information about each group of animals, and illustrations of the species found and methods used in the study.
